Several years ago when Roxana Bolanos, the founder of Learning From A to Z and the creator of the ‘I Can Do It! Reward Chart’, came to me to talk about blogs and social media, I almost had to put the brakes on myself due to the level of excitement I had about some of the topics and ideas we had. As the father of a 4 year old at the time, there was a lot about my experience that I wanted to share. As I close out 2010 and my son is roughly 1/2 way through his 6th year of life, this conversation came full circle as Roxana approached Jerod and I about taking over the day to day operations of Learning From A To Z. There was not a doubt in my mind that it was something that I wanted to do. Jerod was immediately on board as well. So, in the midst of the transition, it is time to start to put some of that excitement into the form of a blog.
Two weeks ago Jerod and I challenged ourselves to start brainstorming about the blog and its direction. In our blogging careers, we’ve done this before. This case was different as there are so many possibilities. There are also a lot of great blogs that cover topics such as learning, children, parenting, and family. Still, that didn’t stop us from quickly finding direction for this blog and confirming that there wasn’t another blog that was really like it. The blog, which we are calling “Perspectives”, will cover a variety of topics related to family, children, and learning but from real world perspectives. We will also recruit writers and other contributors to share their perspectives. But what does this notion of ‘perspective’ really mean? Trying not to ramble, I’ll share a few of my perspectives and see if I can get the point across.
I am a firm believer that life’s experiences shape your perspective. I have created a list of a few facts about me below:
- I was born to Midwestern parents who instilled honest values and a work ethic as they raised me in Dallas, TX.
- I was the son of a traveling father and was traveling myself as a father until I said “I’m not doing this.”
- I speak two foreign languages fluently though born American to a traditional American family.
- I consider myself the successful product of the American education system yet I feel it has room for improvement.
- I have interests in both sports and music and wanting my son to experience the same.
- I am married to a wife that grew up in a foreign country and who shapes our family life around her experience as well as mine.
- My career has been deeply involved in technology which include the experiences of working with others to fight cybercrime and protect children.
- I consider myself both progressive and old fashion in the same breadth.
- I am known as a source of creative and innovative ideas that surfaces in both my spoken and written dialogue.
This is a new venture and I am really excited about the possibilities. Both Jerod and I have a lot of work in front of us on the business front so we will likely start this blog off on the light side with some fun, humor, and other topical matter that will allow us to get out there and start to build a readership. Fee free to reach out and give us your perspective.

I’m excited about your new venture and your blog! I’m going to enjoy following along! I will be checking back often!
Thank you Diane! We are going to hit you up to write a guest post or two so be ready!
